Implementation of University Strategic Plans
March 25, 2013 - Lahore:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a workshop on implemention of university strategic plans facilitated by Mr. Kent Lewis from Teachers College, Columbia University. The worskhop was attended by faculty from four partner universities. The purpose of this workshop was to cultivate strategic thinking and create awareness of external and internal barriers to achieving strategic goals.

Roundtable on Research and Education Policy
March 22, 2013 - Islamabad:

As part of the U.S. Government’s long-term efforts to improve the quality of basic education in Pakistan, the USAID Teacher Education Project organized a roundtable meeting to share and discuss findings from a recent study looking at the connection between research and education policy making.

The study was conducted with respondents from public and private universities in Pakistan, national and provincial level policy makers and representatives from non-government research organizations. In addition to discussing the findings from the study, participants in the roundtable meeting held at the Higher Education Commission Islamabad also generated a set of recommendations to enhance policy analysis and policy research in Pakistan and to increase the uptake of research in the policy making community.
 
Dr. Irfan Muzaffar, an independent education researcher, and Andrew Seager, from the Education Development Center, worked with a team of researchers in Pakistan to conduct the study.
Strategic Planning Workshop
March 15, 2013 - Lahore:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a five-day Strategic Planning Workshop for Islamia University Bahawalpur in Lahore from March 11-15, 2013. The purpose of the workshop was to assist university officials with the development of their strategic plan. 

AJK Task Force Meeting on Teacher Licensing
March 08, 2013 - Muzaffarabad:

USAID Teacher Education Project organized a one day meeting in Muzaffarabad with officials from DCRD, DEE and MOE - AJK. The key agenda of this meeting was to share the model of teacher licensing and certification authority, review of proposed model of teacher licensing and refining the model with mutual consultation of meeting participants.

Blended Learning Workshop
February 28, 2013 - Islamabad:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a three-day workshop on Blended Learning - Module-1 in Islamabad on February 26-28, 2013. The purpose of the workshop was to develop understanding of Teacher Trainers about Blended Learning, its philosophy, techniques and tools.  The workshop was participated by faculties of partner institutions from across Pakistan. 

USAID Awards Scholarships to Student Teachers from Punjab
March 02, 2013 - Lahore:

The USAID Teacher Education Project awarded scholarships to 250 talented students enrolled in the recently introduced two-year Associate Degree in Education (ADE) and four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Education in Punjab.

“I am delighted to see such bright students from Punjab who have dedicated themselves to a life of learning, scholarship, and service,” remarked Mr. Jeffrey Bakken, US Consul General Lahore. He added, “I am confident that the new comprehensive degree programs and USAID scholarships will give us better trained teachers and will bear fruit for years to come.”

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University thanked the people of the United States for providing the resources for the scholarship program that will ultimately improve the quality of education for thousands of Pakistanis.

USAID's visit to College of Education Uthal, Balochistan
February 21, 2013 - Uthal:

US delegation visited Government College of Elementary Education, Uthal, Balochistan to meet with the faculty and students of Associate Degree in Education. Teachers who embark on Pakistan's new two-year Associate Degree in Education (ADE) and four-year Bachelor of Education Honors (B.Ed. [Hons.]) programs learn new approaches to effective teaching and learning for 21st century classrooms. Pakistan has a set of 10 National Professional Standards for Teachers. The new degree programs will help prospective teachers achieve the highest quality of teaching as described by these standards.

USAID Awards Scholarships to 150 students from AJK
February 19, 2013 - Muzaffarabad:

USAID Mission Director Jock Conley and the Education Minister for AJK Mian Abdul Waheed awarded 150 USAID scholarships to talented students enrolled in the two-year ADE and four-year B.Ed. (Hons.) programs in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

“The United States Government is fully committed to supporting Pakistan in its efforts to improve the quality of basic education through better prepared teachers,” remarked Jock Conley. He added, “This scholarship program is yet another expression of the U.S. Government’s long- term commitment to help build a stronger, more prosperous Pakistan.”

Inter-provincial Steering Committee Meeting
February 18, 2013 - Islamabad:

A meeting of Inter-provincial Steering Committee for USAID Teacher Education Project was held in the Cabinet Division under the chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry for Inter-provincial Coordination. The progress of USAID Teacher Education Project was reviewed by the participants. Issues related to amendment in teacher service and recruitment rules, teacher certification and licensing, and teacher education strategies were also discussed in detail during the meeting, and recommendations were made accordingly by the steering committee.

Provincial Steering Committee Meeting
February 12, 2013 - Peshawar:

USAID Teacher Education Project organized a meeting of provincial steering committee, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 12, 2013 here in Peshawar. The meeting was chaired by Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Mr. Mohammad Humayun Khan. The committee reviewed the progress of Teacher Education Strategy 2018 KPK, and issues related to amendment in service and recruitment rules for teachers of KPK.

Planning Meeting with Partner Universities
February 12, 2013 - Lahore:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized an event to bring together the faculty members of partner universities in Punjab and plan for ADE and B.Ed. (Hons.) Semester-II Orientations for Cohort-III colleges and Semester-IV Orientations for Cohort-II colleges. The Orientation Workshops will be conducted in the third and fourth week of February 2013. In the meeting, the agenda and the list of activities with timelines for the sessions were also decided. The concerned university faculty members were assigned their respective roles and responsibilities for the upcoming sessions.

Teaching Practice of ADE Students
February 10, 2013 - Hyderabad:

Children taking pleasure in the learning activity about traffic signals and safe-street crossing- Practicum is a practical application of the studied theory. Through this project, trained prospective teachers (ADE students) are now applying this modern technique by transferring a lesson into traffic situation.

Practicum Training Workshop
February 08, 2013 - Kot Lakhpat:

Practicum training workshop for Government College of Elementary Teachers (GCET) Kot Lakhpat and its 10 Practicum schools was organized by USAID Teacher Education Project at GCET Kot Lakhpat.

The objective of the workshop was to enhance understanding among teacher educators and teachers in practicum school of the features of a good practicum experience, promote cooperation between institutions involved in planning and implementing the practicum and develop a college specific plan for the most effective practicum possible through a coordinated partnership with local schools.
Meeting of Task Force on Teacher Education Strategy of FATA
February 05, 2013 - Peshawar:

Assisting Directorate of Education FATA in developing Teacher Education Strategy 2018 is one of the major activities of USAID Teacher Education Project. As a first step, Directorate of Education FATA formed a Task Force for developing Teacher Education Strategy 2018 FATA. The Task Force consists of well experienced educationists of FATA chaired by Director Education FATA.

The Task Force of Teacher Education Strategy 2018 FATA had their first meeting on February 5, 2013 here in Peshawar. The purpose of the meeting was to orient Task Force members to the nature and scope of the task. In the meeting some important decision about the process of the development of the Teacher Education Strategy 2018 FATA were taken to speed up the process and involve the stakeholders as much as possible.

U.S. Consul General in Karachi visits University of Sindh
January 31, 2013 - Hyderabad:

The U.S. Consul General in Karachi, Michael Dodman visited the University of Sindh to meet students enrolled in the Associate Degree in Education (ADE) and B.Ed.(Hons.) Elementary programs in Sindh. These students were also recently awarded USAID scholarships through the USAID Teacher Education Project. Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General applauded the efforts of the Sindh Government and its Education Department for their commitment and dedication to improving the quality of education through better-prepared teachers. 

Symposium: Distance Learning
January 28, 2013 - Islamabad:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a symposium on distance learning in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The purpose of this symposium was to identify partner universities and faculty from a pool of six Pakistani universities that are offering or are interested in offering the B.Ed. (Hons) Elementary program via distance/online mode.  

3rd National Research Seminar
January 16, 2013 - Lahore:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a three-day National Research Seminar on Academic Writing and Dissemination in Lahore to provide academicians and researchers from leading universities of Pakistan an opportunity to enhance their writing capabilities.

National Interchange on Teacher Recruitment Rules
January 10, 2013 - Lahore:

The United States is working with local partners to improve the quality of basic education in Pakistan by better preparing teachers for the classroom.  To discuss ways to get more qualified teachers into enhancing the education system, the USAID Teacher Education Project organized the National Interchange on Teacher Recruitment Rules in Lahore in which senior government officials from all provinces/regions of Pakistan participated.

Graduation and Scholarship Ceremony
January 07, 2013 - Peshawar:

The graduation and scholarship award ceremony for Pakistan’s initial batch of Associate Degree in Education (ADE) students was at University of Peshawar in which 32 graduates of the ADE program from RITE (Male), Peshawar and 252 talented students enrolled in the Associate Degree in Education (ADE) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) (Hons.) programs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA were awarded merit scholarships worth Rupees 5.14 million. Read more..

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a ten-day Educational Leadership & Management (ELM) Course in collaboration with AKU-IED in Karachi from December 10-20, 2012.The Educational Leadership & Management (ELM) Course Phase 3 is last phase of ELM Course conducted by AKU-IED. The aim of ELM Course is to improve leadership and management skills of principals/faculty of teacher training institutions.

Curriculum Design Workshop
December 15, 2012 - Islamabad:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a five-day Curriculum Design Workshop on Teaching Mathematics in Islamabad from December 11-15, 2012. The purpose of the workshop was to assist university officials with the development of curriculum for Teaching Matematics course.

The USAID through its Teacher Education Project awarded scholarships to students enrolled in a two-year associate degree in education (ADE) and four-year bachelor’s degree in education in Sindh.

Groundbreaking and Graduation Ceremony at Hazara University
November 12, 2012 - Mansehra:

Groundbreaking ceremony for the Faculty of Education building to be built by USAID funds was held at Hazara University, Mansehra. 49 students from the Regional Institute of Teacher Education in Abbottabad were awarded Associate Degree in Education after successfully completing two years of study with USAID support.

Orientation Meeting on ADE Program
October 01, 2012 - Quetta:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a one-day orientation meeting on the ADE program for the third cohort colleges in Balochistan on October 1, 2012. The purpose of the meeting was to provide faculty members with a detailed orientation on the ADE program.

Strategic Planning Workshop
October 12, 2012 - Islamabad:

The USAID Teacher Education Project organized a four-day Strategic Planning Workshop for Karakoram International University (KIU) in Islamabad from October 8-12, 2012. The purpose of the workshop was to assist university officials with the development of their strategic plan. 

World Teachers Day Event
October 05, 2012 - Karachi:

The USAID Teacher Education Project in collaboration with the Government of Sindh, Sindh Teacher Education Development Authority (STEDA) and UNESCO organized an event in Karachi on October 5, 2012 to celebrate World Teachers Day. The event was attended by senior provincial government officials including Senior Education Minister for Sindh.
